What a 3-Minute Speech Taught Me About Fear, Burnout & Self-Trust

My first 3-minute speech

It took me 3 months getting ready to go on stage at our local Public Speaking Club, @kõneklubi. This is how long it sometimes takes to build up enough security to meet the challenge with kindness, not force. As a result, when the time comes, I am not anxious but rather joyful and self-assured, using the moment as a chance to engage, be noticed, listened, and inspired. I get myself to a point of having fun and enjoying the buzz, instead of trying to survive the fear.

Here’s my go-to process—a recipe for nervous system-friendly growth:

I watch for a while. I do not leap right in.
I feel my emotions instead of pushing through them.
I listen to what I need.
I reduce stimulation until it feels manageable.
I gather proof that I could succeed.
I begin to anticipate the time when I will mature and overcome myself.
Excitement replaces anxiety. I am ready.
🎤I go for it.

Then:
I receive the good stuff (praise, success) without crashing.
I stay in balance because I never left it to begin with.
I feel resourced to take on more, without frying my nervous system.

As a result I have reassured my body and mind yet again that my actions and behaviours are consistent and in alignment with their specific ways.

This is how I build self-trust.
This is how I avoid burnout.
This is sustainable.

Does anyone still thrive on adrenaline and the rollercoaster of big highs and lows? I just want to go through life regulated, resourced, and connected. What’s your go-to method for doing scary things in a way that feels good?
